Use a razor blade or something similar along the edge of the tape before removing so you don't tear the new paint off.

Let the paint fully dry before removing the tape.

Best tips I have are to be sure you press the edge of the tape down very well. Not the entire width of the tape, just the 1/4 inch or so that you need.
