Separate only because a few years ago at VIR i ate a lot at the track, so ay dinner that night i ordered a salad and had 1 beer which was a total of $11, plus I threw in $2 towards the tip, thats $13 TOTAL on what I should pay.
But I wound up putting in $20 because they wanted to split it evenly. And there still wasnt enough money to cover the bill, not to mention the tip that I gave $2 towards
So i like to have my own check for now on

If I'm with a few republican friends, then separate. They tend to pocket any extra money, then make a side deal with the waitresses to say it was a dine and dash, this way they can keep 1/2 of the money and she can keep the other 1/2.
But if I'm with a few democratic friends, then separate. They tend not to pay for their portion of the bill and expect me to pay for them because they are lazy and I'm always keeping them down. And while I'm paying, they're usually outside playing hacky sack or joined in a drum circle.
-
But seriously, separate. I don't like people paying for my stuff if I'm extra hungry or paying for theirs if I'm not that hungry.

I usually prefer to split it evenly but if I eat or drink 10 times more or visa versa... I would expect to have separate checks.

group dinner etiquette can be quite complicated, esp if you any cheapasses who don't want to pay their fair share.
separate checks if anyone prefers it or if you know one or more are likely to underpay the group tab. otherwise, one check and ppl pay for what they ordered on one check unless everyone ordered similar priced items (+/- $1-2).
i don't think it's fair for the person who orders steak and lobster to pay the same as someone who orders a soup and salad.

Well I use to be all about one check and spit it evenly throughout the group. But lately i've been noticing that people are eating and or drinking alot more than me and i have to pay way to much for my share.
I really got irked when i was out to dinner with a group and my girl and i got a $30 bottle of wine, and the other couple got a $60 bottle of wine. We ended up splitting down the middle because the one guy was a girl. Now thats just not cool.
So from now on its my own check please....

Depends on the group. If it's a regular group of friends we usually split it up evenly and usually include a 20% tip.
If it's a large group of people then seperate seems to work better.

Most times I have been out the check gets passed around and everyone puts in their share. Then we all throw some tip in. It has worked out pretty well thus far. What you have to keep an eye on are the ones that Dine and Dash, I've notices their contributions tend to be a bit light...

Separate. If you ever end up paying $50 for two Sam Adams, you'll know why.

NJ on one check, NY on the other, right Cakes?
Seriously, depends on the group and what people have.

As stated depends on who ur with
But - usually one & split it.
Try credit card roulette - everyone puts their card into a hat - waitperson picks that person gets it all.
My boy Monk always gets picked
