Lame! These forums arent some kind of competition to see who can get the most members... Maybe from the admins point of view to have active users to get advertising revenue, to keep the site running, but if you are worried about people leaving your site to join another, then like somebody else said... Your site probably sucks...

And banning isnt always a bad thing.

yeah...its gay how some forums don't like you mentioning other sites...ITS A FORUM!!! Not like you're stealing a million dollar account from them. I have no problem people mentioning other sites on my forum....who caress.
