What Do You Look For When Riding with a Track Day Org?
This topic was started on another site and wanted to bring the discussion over here as well. This is not to bash any particular club/org, please don't take it as such.
When you look at the grand scheme of things, the cost of the actual track day is the cheapest part lol. But anywho, heres what I look for:
1. Safety - This is a hobby for me, I have to go to work too.
2a. Organization - The org hosting the day needs to be organized themselves.
2b. Approachable/Knowledgeable Staff - "Cliquey clubs" are not for me. Coaches and/or control riders all on the same page in regards to safety and knowing the line.
3a. Date Availability - Whatever fits my schedule best.
3b. Tracks - I don't settle on just any track, I ride the tracks I want to ride. Distance is a big factor.
4. Admin(s) - Knowledgeable, competent staff in the office.
5. My Friends - When all is said and done, we're all about having fun as well so we all pretty much stick together for the most part and ride.

I would have to agree with you Ian.. Personally I am not going to go to the track by myself so just having a great time with good people does it for me.

I agree with everything you have, although not in that particular order.... I would also add track time, though... If I am going to drive 8+ hours to get to a track, I want to know I am getting my money's worth. We ran until 6pm at VIR a few weeks ago, and that in addition to riding Grand, were some very sweet bonuses.

1- reasonable pricing
2-Quality track selection
3- Scheduling options
4- QUALITY control riders
5- Atmoshpere
I have ridden with a small # of clubs, and I have done many a trackday by myself. I dont think twice about loading up the truck & trailer and heading down to VIR by myself for a day at the track. It's got to be a good track at a reasonable price, that works with my f'd up schedule, and the control riders have to have their shit together. I have done many a track day in the past where the control riders were out turning laps with an occassional glimpse over their shoulder. THankfully, in the past 1-2 years, they have really become alert and approachable. I have gotten more feedback in the past 2 years than the 8 years before all together. All clubs have good point and bad points, good guys and bad guys, good days and bad days. If you find a club that you enjoy riding with, then stick to it.This is the reason people drive fords and chevys. They like different things.........
