An accident is different, you're ins co will hit you with it cause a claim was involved. If its just a regular moving violation like a speeding ticket and it gets bumped down to a non moving violation(no points) just a fine, your ins will not go up...it shouldn't...back when I was 18-19 I was up to 13pts. on my DL...insurance surcharge back then was $125 PER POINT, for 3 years...I was considered a "high risk" driver and NJM suggested to my parents I get my own ins otherwise they would of been droped, lol...I'll take the fine over points anyday

That is a 4 point ticket and you should go to court to fight it, so you don't have to pay a state penalty.

You don't fight it, you actually plea to a lesser charge to a non moving violation...if they let you.

I would follow the advice of others, plead not guilty and talk to the prosecutor. A lawyer could get you off with no points but being your first offense I would save the money.
You are definitely going to get penalized by your insurance company. Whether or not you rates go up will depend on if the points move you into a different rating tier....good luck!

Yeah you fight the 4 point ticket...talk to the prosecutor and see if you guys can work something out. If this is your first speeding ticket, it will be easier for you to plead to a lesser violation.

Thanks for you advice guys! Like Cakes said, I'll pay whatever as long as I don't get points! I'm hoping because my license has always been clean (no points ever), I can get it dropped to 0 points. I'm also guessing even if I do get 2 points, my insurance shouldn't go up. Don't they allow you 1 moving violation or something like 2 points anyway. I need to call them and find out.
Either way, this ain't going to be cheap!
P.S. The ticket says "Woodbridge" municipality.

listen to Imma, he has been to court many times it seems like.
In NJ a 4pt speeding ticket will often be knocked down to either a 2pt speeding ticket.
A 2pt speeding ticket will often get knocked down to a 0pt unsafe driving ticket. (can only do 2 times in three years).
Other 2 point tickets are also often pleaded down to the 0pt unsafe ticket.
The best scenario is to get it knocked down to a 39:4-56 which is a Impeding Traffic ticket or something along those lines, which is the old 0pt ticket they used to knock most stuff down to before the Unsafe Driving was put into effect.
To lower a 82 in a 55 to the Impeding traffic would probably require the assistance of a lawyer. You could simply call up the court to plead not guilty (you MUST call in advance).
What I would do is tell the prosecutor you have a clean driving record and you would like to keep it that way. Ask for the 39:4-56 and explain if he doesnt agree with that you will request an adjournment so you can speak with a lawyer. He might bite because of your record and it would be better to settle it now while you are there rather than rescheduling it and dealing with it again.

yes they really do work. You can take one class per year. Just make sure it's a legit one. If you have AAA you can check with them. That's how I found one way back when.

Make sure you bring your check book though...cause if pleaded down your fees will be easily $400+
Hope it works out and you get no points. Good luck.

you could take the defensive driving course to lower your points. But its once every 5 years. Not one. And its a gamble. This is how it works out
If you take the defensive driving course, it is really a gamble, and this is why.
your license will drop 2 points. But within one year of taking that class, you CANNOT get a ticket. If you get a ticket within one year period after taking the class, you will get MORE points, possibly even losing your license. A laywer will NOT gaurantee you to walk away with no points, and the ones that do are bsing you. However, its around $500 for a TRAFFIC lawyer, sometimes more and sometimes less. If your court is in woodbridge, get a woodbridge laywer, since lawyers that go out of town will charge more because they have to travel farther, and you'll feel like a schmuck if he just lowered it 2 points which you could of done yourself.
Best bet:
Plead not guilty, try to get it to the 0pt ticket like ffjettable said. If not, go for the 39:4-97.2 which is also a 0pt ticket. Otherwise, just take the 2 points n the insurance hit and DON"T take the defensive driving course. For some ODD reason if the prosecutor won't lower the points at ALL, ask to be rescheduled so you can get a lawyer. You do'nt really have to get a lawyer, but thats a good reason for them to reschedule you. Let me remind you that the town just wants money, and their best bet is to give you the 39:4-97.2 which would run you about $433
