Thumbs up **AS OF TODAY, I'M FULL WEIGHT BEARING!!!**

I'm posting this here even though a bike had everything to do with what happened ("Off Topic: Anything non bike related.") .

Anyway, I stopped by my Orthopedist for my regular 4 week follow-up and after the examination he gave me the green light to finally put full body weight on my recovering left leg. This is the best gift that I could get this year and just in time for the holiday. This is a major step for me (no pun intended) because from here on my recovery will move much quicker regarding the bone growth in the shattered portion of the Tibial Plateau, and it's a huge confidence booster. Now I can concentrate on building up the strength in my quad, hamstring and calf muscles by walking for 30 minutes on the treadmill up to 4 times a day.

Those first few steps felt very awkward, like anyone who's seen a colt born as they try to get up and walk with their wobbly legs. My leg still didn't feel like it was mine for the first hour, all that weight was putting pressure I haven't felt on the muscles and bones of the foot, ankle and leg since June. But with some patience in taking smaller steps my leg started to already get adjusted to that normal feeling by the end of tonight. I have a bit of a limp till the knee frees up and the muscle strength returns but I finally have both hands free, I feel like an entirely new and different person. As projected it'll probably take another 5 months before I'm back to a near 100% status.

The crutches are gone and I'm waiting for the Carbon Fiber cane I ordered to arrive in the mail within the next few days. However my knee will be falling behind with the progress due to the amount of scar tissue. It's been taking a very long agonizing time to stretch out all the tendons, ligaments and adhesions that have been retracted due to the swelling and lack of motion since surgery, but with active stretching since mid July the ROM's up to 90 degrees and with passive stretching it's up to 70, so today the Dr. ordered a special brace with springs on it (forget it's name) for me to wear three hours every night that will slowly bend and stretch all the internals of the knee further and further inbetween therapy sessions.

It's amazing how fragile the human body is, and even though we don't mean to, how we sometimes take for granted what we have, cuz let me tell you life isn't easy once one major portion of the body ceases to function properly for a while. Things happen for a reason and I'm not sure why I was chosen for this test but It's opened my perspective on life and made me even stronger in mind than I was. I just hope this is the last major hurdle for me...I think I'm done with mishaps for the duration of my life.
