A very sad day in history my Dad was almost a year old his uncle was on the Anola Gay that was the plane that dropped the Bomb killing a few million japs ending the war .My Dad still to this day calls his uncle to say thank you to him .Uncle Earl now is about 80 somthing he lives in new york and a few year back he went to Pearl Harbor it was the 2nd time there he met a few japs who flew over Pearl and got busted but lived some how .Lets not forget any of our troops they make us free and keep us free .....Bill

Past years some of those 350 pilots came to visit the USS Arizona memorial on the anniversary and shook hands with our retired servicemen apologizing for what they did. They were just doing their job as servicemen to their country, but after all these years their guilt still weighed heavy. That's the shocking/apparent irony of war, deep down inside a killer is still a caring human being to the enemy.

2 quick things, th eplane your dads uncle flew on was the Enola Gay named after the pilots mother and the bomb dropped on hiroshima killed about 250k people and the numbers of those who died of complications afterwards from radiation sickness arent too accurate.

I keep in touch with a former NY'er who is a Pearl Harbor veteran/survivor. The guy is truly one of America's greatest generation. Amazing folks WW2 vets...
He's pushing 90 and still active. God Bless him.

Before I got into PA school I volunteered at the northport VA hospital so I got to speak to many of the guys who saw combat in all the wars. I even met a guy who was a WWI vetran who fouhgt in france. He was right around 100 years old and was in great shape his onl yproblem was an enlarged prostate. He was the grand marshall of the memorial day and vets day parades out in huntington or something like that.
