Default Help from the cell phone guru's

My contract is up and i'm looking into getting a PDA to replace my i560. I really need a scheduler. Anyway, Purchasing a new phone thru Sprint/Nextel will involve starting a new 2-year contract which i'm a bit hesitant on doing. Is it possible to simply purchase a PDA thru ebay and just pop my old SIM into the new phone and carry on? sounds too easy but i figured i'd ask. Any other advise you's might have would be great..

Kevin

Hey Kev, yea you can do that. Make sure its already a Sprint/Nextel product or a "SIM Unlocked" product. That'll allow you to use another carrier's product on your carrier's network, providing its the same kind of network(i.e. GSM vs. CDMA.) Just be aware, using another carrier's product although might work fine, sometimes can conflict causing little quirks, i.e. some drop calls.

Can i even swap SIM's or are they different between phones? Is this something frowned upon by the provider? Thanks Joe, big plate of pasta for you!

You can swap sim's between other carrier's products. But if you start experiencing any irregularities i.e. drop calls, kinda hard to call customer care lol.

I gotta be honest, out of the top 4 major providers, nation wide Sprint/Nextel has the worst network. Verizon probably has the best but you're gonna pay for every little thing. T-Mobile probably has the best plans/rates(unless you're Levi and use the internet while international roaming in Canada ROFL) whos network has gotten considerably better over the past 4-5 years. Look into 3G(3rd Generation) products as well, 2G is slowly getting phased out and will probably be obsolete in 6-7 years.

I have Sprint, my contract's not up, and I recently went on ebay and purchased a new phone (Sprint phone...the HTC Touch Pro). Went online to my account and activated it. No problem. Didn't have to do anything as far as my contract.

Thanks for the heads up. Did you swap SIMs yourself?

No SIM card in my phone, it's CDMA. None of my phones, either with Sprint or when I had Verizon, had SIM cards.

as mentioned sprint and vzw are cdma which does not use a sim card. if you have a sim with "sprint" its probably a nextel phone. some of them used sim cards. that might explain why you would have to switch plans...

i am sending this from mh new samsung omnia. its pretty badass.
