Help Fight Cancer

I do a few walks each year and decided to do my own collections and donate the money to specific funds, not just a general "fight cancer" fund. I like to know exactly where that money is going and not having like 30% taken out for some bs "administrative" fee. I'm going to fill out the form to request the ACS financial distribution report to see if it's just me being paranoid or what, but I've heard stories of legit charities taking out what I saw as an extraordinary amount for nonsense. But I decided to work for a cancer center after my wife's whole ordeal so I'm a little biased on where to donate , but I at least know it's going directly to a place that is on the front line of fighting cancer.

I've found their paperwork online (though it says to write or call them) and gave it a quick read through during lunch (yeah, I have nothing better to do). I don't fully understand it but at a quick glance, this is the kind of stuff that bothers me.

Advertising Costs
Advertising costs are expensed as incurred. Advertising expenses incurred for fiscal years ended
August 31, 2007 and 2006 were $33,423,000 and $32,162,000, respectively.

This document is way more detailed than I need for what I want to figure out, so I have to comb through it to get the figures I'm interested in, but spending $33 million dollars (which I assume comprised of donations) to say "hey, please donate" is exactly what I wanted to avoid. But there is that old saying that goes "it takes money to make money" so hopefully their total gross donated dollars pays off.
