Default My home computer is infected!!!

I got this fake antispamware virus on my home machine called "Spyware protect 2009" It's taken over my browser so I cant download a fix and I cant use system restore either. I also tried to manually remove the program but the search function reveals nothing.

This is beyond my capabilities. Anyone ever have to remove this sucker?

have you tried restoring your computer to a date before you found this software? that usually works for me. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

when you are trying to remove them manually, do windows safe mode option.

did you try and see if browser works in 'safe mode with networking' option?

Did you let John "I format my PC once a week" touch your computer?

Looks like you have a few things to try...

That one is pretty ugly but it can be cleaned.

I had the spyware virus on my office computer. It's a S.O.B. to remove as it was able to hide from from MacAfee anti-virus. Look into Malware anti-virus. I had to purchase it but it removed spyware completely.

OK. This thing completely crippled IE. So I downloaded firefox and was able to remove the spyware/malware manually. Then dowloaded windows defender and lavasoft adaware. After I manually removed the spyware niether of these programs could detect any problems on the machine. All was lookin good.
So I then installed service pack 3. Machine was runnin real smooth at this point. Nice and fast.
The spyware corrupted a few drivers so I went to Dell's support site and installed everything they recomended for my machine.

Thats when the real trouble started. BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH began to appear. All along the way everytime I had to restart the machine it would freeze up in the middle of the reboot. It took 3-4 times to get the desktop up.

So today I'm gonna pickup a new HD and ram. I was advised to get a seagate. I have a SATA 7200rpm 250gig now. Gonna try and get a 500 or 750 gig. Maybe 2 500 gig HD's. A backup would be nice.

Hey Ralph,

My cpu got real f-ed up a few months ago and I was able to work it out with the help of this site: http://www.techsupportforum.com/
They have you run a few diagnosing tools that you send to them and they give you directions on what to do from there. Took me the better of a day to get it worked out but they were great. I was so pleased with the result I donated to the site.
