Default Help me with Summit Main

Hey all, hope y'all have kept out of the wreck contest like I have ...so far.

I'm pissing off my Mom but still going to Summit on May 10. (We agreed that I can take her out for dinner before Mothers Day, so I'm still a good son).

I've only been there twice and I really want to start focusing on reference points for braking, turn in, and apex. Are there any tools out there to help me?

I've searched but what I'm really looking for is to get into the head of a veteran.

Like a walk through of what you're looking at and what are your markers throughout the track? Maybe I'm asking too much, or need to figure it out myself - but hey. Just asking.

Thanks.
Josh

What track day org(s) have you been there with?

It's tough now since the repave, and the second repave, and the fixes. Reference points keep changing.

Ill be there May 10th as well. Come over and say hello. I just rode at Summit and Im there again tomorrow. Just have someone tow you around at your pace or a little better and pick a reference point where he's turning braking. The CRs are pretty good at helping with that stuff. We can chat about it all track day...im no veteran though. (or even close)

Hey cool, yeah let's hook up. I'm the one with the ghetto trailer with the black honda number 23.

This is the plateau I'm trying to get past. I'm not paying attention to my surroundings and learning my RP's so when I'm alone, I'm lost. I can get towed and feel really great. I need to start seeing the big picture better. My form is getting better. My smoothness is getting better.
But I'm not.

Have you taken any kind of beginner class? Not sure what NESBA offers as far as class and/or personal instruction...I know TPM offers a few different types of classes that many people have benefited from.

Check out the different ART levels:

Another thing you can try is pick something you want to work on...take a certain turn and focus on that turn for a session...so on and so on.

Draw the track on paper or use a printed track map then make notes on that paper. This will help you look for markers on the track and once written you'll be more likely to remember the details. Drew and I will be at Summit on the 10th so try and find us. I have a pretty large camper and its not hard to find. What class do you ride in?

I was thinking of doing that, good idea.
I'll probably go through some of the videos on line too and start putting RPs in that way. Worse thing is I can't find my Twist Volume 1 book. I have 2 but Keith spend a lot more time on RPs in the first book.

I'm B #23 riding a black 600RR with black leathers except for a little blue on the front.

I'll look for you.

I actually liked Total Control by Lee Parks better.

Well said Ralph. I've been there like 5 times total. However only once since the repave and yeah I feel like I have to learn the track again.

I know we've probably discussed this plenty of times, but I wish Summit would do a good job and just fix Main. It's a fun layout.

Drew - sorry I missed you .

Had a great day on the track. Plus I had my camera set up and recorded most of it.

I focused on my RP's and it made a huge difference. I am seeing way out ahead. Instead of 50 feet - I'm looking 200 down the road.
My lines through the carousel were spot on and I was taking people out of turn 9 all day long.

reviewing my vids I realized I'm not getting on the gas soon enough. I thought I was, but the video's don't lie.

Can't wait to get back - next up at Main is June 5.

Anyone here going?
