Hardware diagnotic software

Can anyone recommend (or send me) software for diagnosing hardware problems? Something funky is up with my PC and it's hardware related, I don't know if it's the HD, RAM, processor, or mobo, but something aint right. There is a random lag (10 seconds) sometimes to do simple stuff and I can't pin point it. It's not software related as I've done 2 fresh installes of XP and same results each time.

What kinda machine dude, I know most vendors have that kinda software available but it's usually specific to their system. Probably a funky driver release for something...

I dont know of any software offhand, but if I suspect a hardware problem, the first thing I do is pull out/disconnect all unneccessary devices (second hard drives, cd/dvd drives, sound cards, USB devices, etc).

The second thing, if you have "spare" memory, is to take out as much memory as possible and rotate the memory in to see if its a specific dimm causing the problem. Most of my memory problems have resulted in blue screens more than anything tho.

The latest and greatest drivers arent always the best and most stable. I generally keep a "stable" version of drivers handy that I can always go back to if I suspect a driver issue. New drivers while intended to fix old issues and increase performance sometimes wind up introducing their own bugs.

yeah, I downloaded that last night. I only looked at it shortly but I haven't read through the documentation at all.
