Default 50-50-1 Climb For Cancer

Hey all....

On June 23rd 2007 a good friend and I will Be attempting to Summit the 14,411 foot Mount Rainier in Washington. My grandmother passed away Friday April 27th when she succumed to cancer. This event is called 50-50-1...50 states, 50 peaks, 1 goal. The event as stated above takes place 6/23/07 when teams in all 50 states will attempt to climb each states highest peak. All proceeds will go towards leading edge cancer research, provide patient services, and give children with cancer the chance to attend a summer camp with other children with this diasease.

We have been asked as a team to raise $5000.00 all of which will go towards the foundation. Your must donate through our teams page not through the main page. More info can be found at www.50-50-1.com

If anyone is interested in making a donation please contact me either here or via PM. Even 5 dollars would be a huge help! Thanks!

Chris

the route is to be determined at this time due to the ever changing weather...but as of right now its either the emmons glacier route or the Dissapointment cleaver.

You will probably climb the disappointment cleaver route since that is the most accessible way up there... most people climb from this side.
Are you going with guides or just going by yourself? Have you ever climbed on a glacier before? It is a cool mtn!

Actually were leaning towards emmons. The dc route is heavily guided by RMI and we kinda wanna stay away from the traffic jams. Ive been climbing since I was around 13. This will be our first attempt at rainier.

Thanks nick I appreciate it!

Cool Good luck. The hike into the emmons route is really cool. If you guys set up your first camp in glacier basin the views are pretty insane. If you guys go all the way up the inner glacier to camp Shurman from your car/truck be prepared for a LOOOOOOng Day. Take lots of pics. Good luck.

btw.. it may not look like it but you def should rope up going up the inner glacier. When you get to the top of it you will get to this outcropping called steamboat prow. It looks down on camp Shurman and directly accross is the emmons glacier.. It is the first real close up views that you will get of those HUGE crevases.. Again have a great time if you have never been in the real mountains before you are gonna feel like you are on Mt Everest.. It is seriously amazing!

ffej....Thanks for your donation!!!!!!!!

Carl,

Yea thats the only thing were looking at. pros/cons to each....dc being crowded and the longer approach to emmons....we only have a couple days window to summit on sat the 23rd. We will be starting our approach on wed the 20th....so...3 days. Hopefully the weather and my body cooperate.

We will be roped up on any and all glaciers we travel...regardless. Safety is obviously our #1 concern.

I might have some gear if you need to borrow.
Not much is left but I think I have some pickets and I do have a pair of scarpa boots like 10.5 or so(plastic with a inner bootie). If you want any more info on that route PM me. I attempted it like 10 years ago. We got to camp Shurman and were forced to go back due to the weather. It was snowing like 3 inches an hour.. Good thing we bailed... the storm lasted 3 days. I have some pics of it too.

awesome. I'll give you whatever you want for them. I was actually going to order more this morning but let me know. Just wanna get everything in order asap.

Was the DC route jam packed? thats the only thing im worried about...and rock/ice fall. Emmons just looks like a nicer alternative. How much longer is the approach?
