Secacus NJ
So any of you jersey people know anything about this area. I may be getting an ER job over there and wanted to know how the commute is from NYC as well as the community. This way I know what I will be dealing with. Currently I am in the armpit of brooklyn ( my buddy took care of that cop who died yesterday) so I wanted to know will I be seeing the same sort of stuff or is it a little more quiet.

Well I believe that it is more quiet than that. It's an industrial area and has outlets where you can get some good bargains. I don't think your commute will be that bad...how would you be getting there?

nothing like brooklyn tommy. although im not sure what type of trauma center they have. i guess dependant on that you could get a lot from surrounding municipalities coming in. As far as seacaucus as a town, relatively quiet. short commute from nyc as well.

I worked right accross the street from Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus @ Panasonic. Traffic sucks getting out of there(Meadowlands Parkway) cause it is basically one way in and out. Other then that ditto what others are saying. Some good place to eat.

Being I live in the sticks, I call everything east of me "the city". Good luck Tommy!

it was nuts over at county, plus they shut down their ER becasue bloomber and the gang were there so we got all the overflow. The fucked up thing is if the guy didnt chase the guy and came straight to the ER he probably would have lived. He was walking and talking when he came in, and the thoracotomy went well but he had too many metabolic problems from his cells not having adequate oxygen.
Given my choices between here or 2 ER's up around newburgh I will prolly head over that way since it sound slike a better community and is less of a trip provided I get the shifts and the money I want.

its a possibility. If the job is everything I want and know I am going to stick around for a while I would move over the bridge ( I want ot get off LI anyway, too damn expensive here) I dont want to go too far though because I also work PT for a friend of mine in a rehab office in brooklyn and more or less get paid a ton of money to stare at the walls for 4 hours. He may also be opening a few other offices and possibly an urgent care clinic in brooklyn and for the money it would be worth the commute.
Plus a lot of ER jobs schedule shifts to start before or after rush hour sinc epeople need to be there 24/7

it all depends where in Seacaucus (if you plan on moving there) but there are quiet areas there where there in NO industrial areas there although Seacaucus is mainly industralized and a very small town. the back streets behind the fire department are pretty quiet and the houses are a decent size lot. but the commute will be a killer.

The taxes is more of a concern right now. If I am only going to get a few grand more in salary its not worth it, but if I get a bump of 20 to 25K ( yes I am THAT underpaid) and can see sicker patients I will def jump ship. My second job has me filing as a 1099 so they said I can make a lot more deductions that way so thats something else to look into.
Oh Chris its a Level II trauma center, and my interview next week will be with the director while shes working clinically so at least I will be able to see how the place runs.
