Default Birth Of My Fish Tank

Well after about a year i finally got my saltwater fish tank up and running. Started with a 55 gallon aquarium kit from petco. Then over a beer using a pen and a napkin, my boy tim and i came up with my fish stand. It wasn't suppose to be this big, but you can't stop artists at work.

Here is the first cut of the soon to be stand

Here is a temporary setup of what the stand should look like.

Next step was some walls and a top

Here is the almost done stand.

First shot of the stand in my room. Needless to say it was bigger then i thought it would be. 70" long big.

And finally a close up shot of the 45lbs of live fiji rock that just got put in.

So after another 2-4 weeks of cycling the water and rock i'll be ready for some fish. If anyone is interested in a stand let me know. Were starting a new company "Tanks by Tim"

i love fish tanks! thats really nice. I was looking at building my own tank. It dosent seem hard just crucial how you construct it. I would love to have a tank like Atlantis in the Bahamas. I'm sure i can do it one day just will take 10k and alot of my time.

This is what happens when you stop riding sportbikes!

Nah, you know I'm diggin' the fish tank man, I'd just never have the patience for something like that. Already saw some pics, I'd like to check it out sometime.

its very complicated to set up, well not so much complicated, but a pain in hte ass. It also depends how u want to set it up. fish only? aggresive fish? do u want shrim and inverts? corals?? u cant just mix everything togather, its a balancing act.. i cant get alot of fish i like because they would eat the coral n shrim n crabs i have in ther. i like live coral, and coral is expensivve. a small frag, ( piece ) cost like 40$ , the live rock can cost anywhere from 5$ - 10$ n LB. rule of thumb is 1 lb of live rock per gallon, so do the math, my 30 has around 20 lbs of live rock hte rest is regular rock, which eventually becomes live, once seeded by hte other rocks n stuff.

the thing with salt water tanks is u need LOTS of patience, you just cant fill it with water mix the salt n toss some fish in there. the tank HAS to cycle for at lease 3 weeks to build up benificail bacteria and stuff to keep all the levels in check, i wont even get into that because it will sound too complicated. once you get it started its cool, everyone that comes over my house loves it.. " ooh... ahh.. whats that? is that alive? " every single thing in my tank is alive, i hate fake corals n crap like that , they look cheesy.
