TLR makeover as a track bike
Hey fellas,
turned my 03 TLR into a full time track day machine. Just got done with paint over the weekend, lost my other fairing decals and had to re-order them which sucked to the tune of $90...again.
Here is what I was riding in October
Over the winter, I began ordering parts for the conversion to track tool
sharkskinz
Gale Speed forged aluminum 5 spoke wheels (should be here soon)
520 chain/sprocket conversion
PFM cast iron brake rotors coming this week
Ferodo race pads
Galfer rear wave rotor
new radial master cylinders brake and clutch (coming this week)
new brake lines
scotts steering damper (coming this week)
Custom fiberglass ram-air tubes
Engine Ice coolant swap
Vortex gas cap
Last year:
Bitubo rear shock
M4 full exhaust
Powder commander
Rearsets
Race Tech tuned forks
Some of the work in progress:
After paint
Wheels that havent arrived yet(hopefully in a couple of days)
Ken

Looks great Ken.
I'm still banging my head with the damn fairing stay. I'm use to modifing parts to make them work but this thing is a piece of shit.

Nice work on the bike, and those rims look like they are very light. What is the weight difference between those and stock?

Thanks Bro
I know all about the Graves stay, wasn't meant to fit TLR bodywork although it was "designed for Racing applications" I guess with OEM fairings in place.
I tried to prusuade it to move and the instrument gauge place cracked away from the fairing stay

Nice TL,
you should really consider getting Vandrivers exhaust brackets and loose all of the extra crap on the subframe.
I am anxious to get the wheels...been a month since I ordered them..any day now.

Yep... That happened last night.
Now I'm also having clearance issues with the gauges and the Brembo MC as well as the Brembo 45cc reservoir and mirror arm. Again...
Any issues with Chelpa's air tubes and fairing fitment... I'm pulling the stay off and redoing the fitting to see if the stay is the only issue or if I'm fighting the fitment of the air tubes too.

I have been wrestling with the tubes somewhat as well. I may have to relieve the opening of where they come through the fairing a bit with a dremel. I also had to trim some material off the back end of the tubes with a dremel cutting wheel, about a half inch or so. Part of the tube hits the airbox before it gets in far enough. I inserted them into my parts TLR frame and they were perfect, airbox in place becomes a problem because the airboxes don't line up perfectly with the holes in the frame.
Thanks for the heads up about the master cylinder clearance, when my parts arrive, I will have to see about that. I was forced to order a Nissin Clutch MC, which follows the design of the OEM master, but my Nissin brake MC is radial and may come out too far...fingers crossed.
Too much to do before Saturday.
Ken

I have the Nissin radial MC on my TLS and yes, it sticks out (forward) quite a bit...
I'm also using woodcraft clip-ons on the TLR and had to make my own bracket for the reservoir. Part of the problem may be my own design but the Brembo reservoir is a PIA to work with.
Did you go with the bigger 5/8" clutch master? I haven't had a chance to 'test' it yet.
I've since changed the reservoir location (swapped sides / closer to the triple) on the bracket since it was making contact with the fairing too.
