A good watch for relatively little money is an INVICTA. Their watches are well made, they offer good selection and also automatics in Japanese and Swiss movements.
Here is a picture of the Tissot BALLADE III AUTOMATIC I just got as a gift.

I just got an Invicta on recommendation from Ken and I have to admit, they are really nice for not much money. But here is the dream. Carbon Fiber face too.
