Default Caliper cleaning

Took my calipers apart today and gave them a very good cleaning. Easily to do if you got time. Pistons maneuver so much easy after cleaning. Only thing that got me was when you take the calipers apart, there are two rubber washers (seal set) that go around the inside of the caliper jets, both sides. They disintegrated like biodegradable styrofoam packaging popcorn when cleaning with brake fluid. Luckily enough i have a set of bad calipers that i took apart and used the rubber washers from them, and just cleaned them with warm water.

I've been saying I am going to do this since forever on my track bike. Waiting until I need to do a full bleed though, which will probably be the end of the season.

Next time, just use snap ring pliers to grip the pistons from the inside so you don't have to take the caliper halves apart. That way you just pull them partially out, spray them, use a toothbrush to get the grime off. Puth them back in and you are done.

Ginoe, Great vids...

I can laugh now but I remember I tried bleeding the brakes on one of my bikes years back and I didn't put a rag on the tank. Needless to say the Brake fluid ate the paint like Oprah on a sugar rush.
