Sorry dude, back in the day I considered that bike and bought a 91 F2. When I sold it 50K+ later I never regretted it. I did get a chance to demo a cb750 later and thought it wasn't bad, but it wasnt me.

I just found this post, and it's funny cuz Cakes (Joe) was just telling me that this one was still empty cuz no one in here rides that type of bike?!

Well I can still say that I rode a '92 for many years. Picking it up in '96 with 850 miles on it, converting it to a cafe' racer and ending it with about 37K.

Is your bike stock?

Those baffles seemd to have a lot of restriction when I removed the heavy 4-into-2 stock exhaust, and there's a good chance your carbs are running lean due to the work you did on the baffles, better synch them if you haven't done so yet to save the motor.

Also I'm not sure how hard you ride that bike but if you're looking for rubber with much better performance than the stock ones pick up Dunlop D205ZR's, 110-80-18 & 140-80-17, they stick like glue in the twisties. Avon also has a matching set and perform just as good if not better than the Dunlops but I didn't get the chance to run them.

If you want to get a bit more performance out of the motor install either a stage 1 or stage 3 jet kit with the K&N, as well as a K&N crank case breather, it'll give you a nice throttle response with your new custom pipes.

What kind of oil are you running?

full synthetic. iwent into one corner the way i did on the F4 and literally slid to the out side. had to cut it hard and kill the throttle to keep from going over the edge. so i will look into those dunlops. i just need sticky with longevity. the 'hawk is all i got and i ride the piss out of it every where... how hard would it be to synch the carbs my self. moneies are tight but i wanna get it done!

You really don't need to run full synth being the pistons might have too much slipage in the cylinders and you could loose some ponies. I found a perfect combo to run it hard in the summer to keep it nice and cool, 20/50 semi synth is able to perform excellent heat transfer away from the motor with the oil cooler.

Keep an eye on the tire pressure being that bike performs very poorly even if the pressure is off only a few psi. Those stock tires are really only meant for straight line touring, due to their hard compound to keep the mileage rates high they don't stick well towards the edges and could prove dangerous regarding slipage. The Dunlops provide an excellent combo of mileage and performance, I was running them for years.

I had my carbs done at a top notch shop and they did an excellent job. If you haven't done that before I would suggest taking it to a shop, you'll save lots of extra money in fuel and engine maintenance in the long run. At this point you really shouldn't run the bike till you get that done or you could be causing heat damage to the internals.

You are not alone. I'm riding and FZ1 and commute as often as I can. There is nothing wrong in riding and Old man's sport bike. I have fun on the twisties and am happy to be out there.!
