Default Track (Monthly Expenses)

Can some one give me an idea about,

on an average how much $$$ I have to spend including gas, food, track day $$$, motel, tires etc 2 track days a month and 12 track days in 6 months? on an average how much does it cost per month? a lot of you folks who has been doing this year in and year out might have a general idea.

Well figuring at track day is 170 average your already up to $340 dollars.....if its pocono figure a tank of gas there and back twice thats 200. New pair of tires cause you want track tires or your street tires are shot, depending on what you want 300$ average. so you're up to 840$ there alone.

But even without the tires it's 540$ thats not including a hotel.

Levi a few things to do to ease the blow is one buy a speedpass, that way it doesnt seem like I pay as I go. Also try to throw a few bucks aside each week for a trackday fund, this way come summer you have a few hundred or more put away to cover expenses.

Also its good to split the trip/costs whenever possible. I have done trips to vir and beaver flying solo and it gets real expensive real fast.

And then theres all the unbforseen expenses from breaking stuff and upkeep of the bike.

I agree 100% , I've been doing track days for 10 years and I never counted the money. It's not like I have deep pockets, I just don't want to know.

Also realize that track days are sometimes cheaper then racing. I dropped close to $1000 to race at Daytona. That covered CCS race license, 5 races and the open practice day. Dropped an other $600 to race at Barber later that same yaer. Granted these are 2 of the most expensive races to do in the East. Also that doesn't include the gas, food and camping costs.

I am in a real dilemma here. My car is a POS. I need a new one, I am thinking of getting a truck, but its not practical for everyday traveling as it is a gas guzzler. If I don't get one then I have to be dependent on someone every time I want to go to a track. I might have to buy a car and a truck, that will put a hole in my pocket in terms of insurance [brooklyn is VERY expensive] decisions, decisions.

Not an easy prospect for sure but transportation is definitely an issue. You can get by with certain cars that are rated to pull small trailers and use a small utility trailer for a few seasons.
After that, you'll be acquiring more crap and then be moving up to an enclosed trailer someday and then you will NEED a truck.
I live in Queens and parking a trailer is always an issue if you can't squeeze it into your driveway or yard. Smaller utility trailers or folding trailers would work out well for the time being if you're just coming alone to the track.

2 track days = 340.00
1 set tires= 300.00
gas for travel & bike=150.00-200.00
hotel for 2 days= 200.00
food =100.00

If I go to VIR or Beaverun, fuel costs me more than $200 for a 2 day weekend. Pulling a full 6x12 trailer with 2-3 bikes and grear gets me about 10 miles per gallon on the highway.
My Durango is a pig on fuel and so are my bikes. The TLR takes a full tank and most of a 5 gallon gas can per track day. The TZ250 isn't much better on fuel economy and the C12 care fuel is about $13.00 per gallon with the 2 stroke oil additive.
Food? Always subjective to what or where you eat, but $100 is definitely eating on the cheap for a 2 day track weekend. To each their own. I look at the road trips as mini-vacations. I go out to eat in the evening with the guys/gals and have a few cocktails and some laughs. Makes for a better weekend than holing up ni the motel with a six-pack and a bag of Dorito's for dinner.

I live in apartment complex [bike in a paid parking garage]. No place to store the trailer. I am thinking of parking the trailer in a friend's house (south jersey, a 50+ miles away), not really a good option .

I have a 94 Cavalier wagon with a trailer I share with a friend for events that I go alone and a use to get the bike to my another friends place. We share the expenses for the far away events, he has a trailer for 2 bikes.

I've done the truck route with a 94 ranger and 97 ranger but the daily commute, over 100 miles round trip, killed my wallet with today gas prices, hence the Cavalier now.

The bike is a 99 R6, my wife has a 97 Taurus, so the newest vehicle I've ever owned is always the bike. Gotta keep the priorities right.
