Default So Screwed!

So I got pulled over on the GSP for speeding, got clocked doing 82 in a 55. Anyone know what I should do or could do so I don't get any points?

And is it true that your insurance only goes up at 3 points and over?

Gracias!
Patti

I think it depends on your carrier, but pretty much they all go up for any points violations. If it's your first offense I think you can opt to pay a larger fine without getting any points, but the last I heard it was only available for first time offenders.

Oofa...what town? Hows your DL? Any points? Best bet is to go to court and talk to the prosecutor.

If its your first offense you can plead careless driving. No points only a sizable donation to whatever twps your got pulled over in. Range of the fine is from $350-$400 dollars. Usually this is done through the prosecutor like Cakes said earlier. Hope it works out.

Careless is 2pts in NJ.

However, there is a zero point moving violation, it's just that the fine doubles and you also have to pay the state a $250 fine.

Just talk to the prosecuter and see if they can drop it to a 2pt ticket.

They downgrade it to an "Unsafe driving" violation or something like that. Just fines, no points...town just wants their money, which s better than ins surcharges.

Even if you don't get these DL points, apparently there are insurance points that get added to your policy with moving violations. You may have to pay a surcharge to the state for the next 3 years.

Yeah, I heard about that. Basically I have a simple philosophy about anything ending in "insurance". They'll try their hardest to fuck you at every turn, every time.

I pleaded a careless ticket down to an "unsafe driving" violation ( car accident). the insurance company still hits you with it, up not as hard as a speeding ticket. I would shoot for that best bet. Oh yeah and try not to speed infront of a cop

good luck, they should knock it down as long as its your first or first in a very long time (as it was for me)

ps. look to donate $400 + to the town $250 of it goes straight to the great state of New Jersey

i know quite a bit about traffic fines...so here's the deal.....
If it is a 4 point ticket, prosecutor will MOST likely (99%) drop it to two points. If it is a 2 point ticket he will most likely to give you this

39:4-97.2. (read "thirty nine four dash ninety seven two") That is the code for unsafe driving. However, you will be hit with a $150 fine, $250 surcharge, and $33 court fee with no points on the first offense, 2nd offense will be a higher fine (usually $250), still a $250 surcharge, $33 court fee and still no points. If this is your 3rd offense within a 5 year period, you will get around a $500 fine, $250 surcharge and 4 points on your license.

Remember that this is an "OPTION" that the prosecutor asks if you want to take it or not. Obviously if you had this twice already, do NOT take it a third time unless you have to take a ticekt that is like 8 points.

You do NOT need a lawyer to get this. However, if you talk to the prosecutor nicely, and it is a 4 point ticket, which i'm pretty sure this is, ask him if he would allow you to take the unsafe driving 39:4-97.2.
