I went from a 955i to the Triumph 675.....I LOVE IT!!!! only about 15 to 20 bhp less at the rear wheel(109bhp) and about 60lbs lighter. It still has the engine caracteristics of the 955i (smooth power) but revs twice as fast...

just my 25 cents

I have to say that Dan's D675 is an excellent choice. Awesome performance from that bike. Great looks, good power and from what I see, very rideable.

After renting an R6 at Pocono FUSA last week, I am looking into rebuilding my TLR and selling it next spring. I believe I will be running an R6 and the TZ250 next year.

As for my 2 smoke. I am getting the TZ250 motor professionally rebuilt over the winter and looking for a fresh start on her next spring. Starting up on a used TZ250 was definitely an education and its so much fun to ride that I won't give up on her yet.
I am expecting that maintaining a professionally rebuilt motor should be simpler than having to guess my way through like I had to do this year.
I managed to get her up and running, but some worn out parts (heads) caused me some grief and breakdowns(money) this season.

Sv650 is a good track bike... but why not just go with a 600cc 4banger? Like a 600RR or an older GSXR 600 or R6. Those can be had pretty cheap and the parts are all over the place, plus your putting out more like 80-100hp but still have a light bike. Having rode a 600 F4 on the track there were times i found myself wishing i had a bit more power on the straights... I would imagine the F4 was probably like 80-90 real world HP.

FWIW... my Sv650 was kicking ASS at Beaver Run this weekend. I had a few ppl on inline 4's tell me they couldn't catch me in the straights until i was on the brakes (I brake WAY too early always cuz I'm new). ...a full system Yoshi tri-oval and 520 conversion +2 is all u really need to make the SV a track day golden child. I see more SV's at the track than any other single model. But...then again I'm biased. MASSIVE fun in the corners and holds her own on the straights.

Matt -

I'm a Yamaha guy all the way but I'm very impressed with those SV 650's. I would have suggested a (92' - 96') TZ 250 but unless your very technical or receive some proper guidance on servicing...It would NOT be the bike. I've seen way too many TZ's come apart because the owner did not speak the 2-stroke language.

Let me know if you would like to have your race-bike professionally setup for next season (which ever bike you decide on). I've worked for several top teams / riders....ex; Aaron Yates, Jim Leslie, James Randolf, Matt Wait...

I will be up in Newburgh visiting my family this up coming holiday season. Let me know.
