I also have an RC51, mine is a 2003.

RC51's are a bike that was very competitive until a few years ago. It's still a great machine, but the newer 600's have definitely evolved. Enjoy the stability (weight) and wonderful sound of a v-twin sport bike. There are lots of mods to get a few extra ponies from your bike, but the biggest performance can be gained from a set of Sato pipes and a power commander. Next is wheels/brakes.
Have a look at RC51.org, the site owner is also a member here. Mike is a knowledgeable guy and the site is dedicated to RC51's. Speedzilla.com also has a healthy RC51 forum. Have a look at both. Lots of free information to be had for your new bike.

I also have a TL1000R, another heavy twin, but its also a great bike to ride and listen to. Owning a twin can be lots of fun in the twisties...lots of low end grunt.

Unless you intend to race the bike, who cares who makes it to the next stop light first??
Welcome aboard.
Ken
