Default $29.99 harbor freight bike chock

not wanting to drill holes into my new truck bed, i opted to mount the wheel chock base to a plank of wood i had laying around in the garage.

the mounting bolts were 5" long, i had to saw off the excess protruding from the bottom. the lock washer & the nut sticks out from the bottom of the wood plank about an inch. i used a thick door mat to keep it from scraping/wobbling.

the brake discs are kinda too close for comfort for me, i'll have to make sure the tie-downs are secure.

Angry

i should have placed a disclaimer on my original post WARNING - if you do as i did, don't blame me if you break something...

hauled the bike to irocrob's to get fresh tires on for the upcoming track season. hey now, why not use that wheel chock i cobbled up together - great idea!

loaded up fine all by myself. 4-point strap into the truckbed, all nice & snug. the entire 90mi round-trip to/from, no worries - bike was in there tight as a drum.

unloading was a snap since there were two of us. me in the front pulling the bike up off the chock as irocrob was in the rear holding steady down the ramp. fresh tires are on, bike back in the truck, strap her down, head for home.

now i'm home, unloading alone. it's dark now so it's hard to see. i cannot get the bike up off the chock. as i pull the bike up & rearwards, the chock bolted on the plank of wood just drags along with the front tire. after numerous attempts, no luck.

i'm so angry, i get all green & turn into the hulk - yanking on the front with all i've got. i get the wheel up & over but now the entire chock & plank of wood rotate rearwards since it's not bolted into the truck bed. the top end of the chock rotates downward onto the front fender snapping off a nice chunk.

since it was too dark i didn't see what was happening, i did hear a snap, crackle, pop - but thought it was just the chock & wood plank knocking around. cleaning up the truck bed, i found the broken fender piece

yeah, it really needs to be bolted down onto something secure.

i'll expoy the piece back on & cover it up with a sponsor sticker
(i guess dunlop, since that's the tires i got on there now).

Take it back.

Ginoe, bolt it to a board that fits in the whole bed of the truck, that way the bike keeps it down.

i was trying to get away with using the plank of wood i had laying around in the garage - i'll try it going lengthwise instead of widthwise
(let's see what breaks off next).

Legnthwise it will have no side to side stability. You can get a 4x8 sheet and cut it in a 'T' shape. That way the chock has side to side stability and when you roll it back, it won't be able to rock rearward and make your fender look like an Alabama smile.

Aww Gino - That sucks....At least fenders are relatively cheap...

BTW - I have the 12mm wrench from your tool kit.
