I got a call on Tuesday regarding my bike which was stolen back in May.

The engine was found in Virginia. Some guy bought it on e-bay and tried to get the bike registered, and it got flagged. I still haven't found out if the VA police knows who the seller of the engine is.

atleast they have a chance to get the fugger. im almost certain you got paid from the insurance company and you could care less about the engine, bike parts ETC which leads me to my next question. what happens to the guy who bought the engine, i know he cant get into trouble for recieving stolen parts but what happens to the money he out out for the engine?

I'm sure that guy isn't any real trouble, other than going through the task of getting his money back from ebay/seller. I just hope the seller will be tracked, assuming he didn't buy it from someone else or didn't cover his tracks too well.

What happenes now? You get back the engine? Or does the ins. co. send it to a salvage yard because they already paid you out?

Believe it or not, most MVC's keep a pretty tight watch on vin #'s and stolen equipment. I know in NY State they have a whole division of the MVC that watches out for that stuff, especially with the canadian border being to the north. Imet a couple of the guys at the NY State Highway Safety COnference last yeatr. They said that they have caught all kinds of shady stuff. He even mentioned to me that the guys from OCC have been known to get caught up in some stuff a while back. Paul Sr. would have a chopper come out of his shop with a 1950's title to it and other funny stuff like that. He was politely alluding that paul sr. was involved in some chop/cut/rebuild stuff in the day. Considering the era and the people who he hangs with, especially some of the older gnarly biker guys around this area, I don't doubt that in the least.

I don't know... but do you think I can transport a bike engine in the back of a regular car?

if your insurance company paid you for the bike then technically they now own it....same thing happened to a buddy of mine. they found his frame in the passaic river and the police called him to let him know about it but he already got the insurance money so it was no longer his

The guy might be charged for possession of stolen property, and he's definitely out the money he paid for the motor.

There is a guy on gixxer.com that bought a bike on ebay, wound up to be stolen while he was attempting to register it. Guy ended up spending thousands of dollars in lawyers to fight it but still got charged with poss. of stolen property and GTA i think, not sure.

Right on man. The Insurance Co. owns the bike. Its their problem to deal with the mess. The Pos don't even have to call you let you know, they just do it as a courtesy.

The Inurance Co. will sell it as salvage.
