need to change my countershaft sprocket.

Default need to change my countershaft sprocket.

is this a difficult procedure? anything special I need to know? all of ze ozzer bikes i've ridden for ze last ten years have been German und shaft driven. I'm not so familiar mit zese Sprockets...

I am filled with anticipation (remorse), and it is most delicious.

Put a socket on the nut and hold it, and then spin the bike around.

Sometimes they come off with ease, sometimes they dont. But even the toughest nuts came off with ease using an impact wrench...

Leave the bike in 1st gear and your foot on the rear brake. You are changing chain and both sprockets right?

yep. that part I get... I just didn't know if it would come off easily or if I need to use a puller. I've always paid someone to do it in the past, but the mechanic that I want to use is in Daytona...
mainly, I just wanted to use the SNL "Sprockets" reference...

Theres also the short 2x4 resting on the swing arm through the rim trick.

Oh it's so easy you will be suprised. I well did the umm well the uh 2x4 thing but it wasn't a 2x4 Let's just say it's stupid easy and you won't have a problem. If the bolt is too tight, use a pipe for extra leverage on the socket wrench

Nope, not hard at all! Easier if you have someone available to hold the rear brake, but the 2x4 works, too! Some sprockets have one of those bent-over locking washers on them that I think need to be un-bent to come off? My Honda didn't have one of those.

Oh, you were serious? I thought this thread was a joke?


It's easy, put the bike in neutral, thread a 2x4 or 2x2 through the rear wheel spoke and swingarm to hold the nut in place whilst it's turning (of course the chain needs to be on the bike at the time). Use a length of PVC or metal pipe for a breaker bar on the countershaft nut as it's usually on there pretty tight.

Some people have been confused on this, but the thread on the countershaft are normal, not reversed if you were wondering.

LOL nooooo that was with Dru...yea they put a plank in the swingarm or something and propped it up on the brick wall and his bumper... I forget why....maybe the shock or something
