The issue was that it would keep randomly resetting. It would happen when using lighter adapter (trying both power cords), hardwired into the fuse box and then re-hardwired by the dealer soldered under the dash. No matter what it kept happening and nothing was wrong with the unit when I sent it back to V-1 (it also worked fine in other vehicles). So yeah not entirely sure the problem is fixed (have to drive the car around a bit more) but it's looking like it was just a loose battery connection. For some reason it got a lot worse between dealer visits and the car would struggle to start and I even had to jump it once.. you'd think I woulda noticed the loose connections at that point.
