If you decide to do it yourself, make sure you soak your fiber discs in oil for at least 1-2 hrs. before installing. They need to absorb oil.

That doesn't sound like a clutch problem at all. If you can launch hard from a stop then you're clutch is fine.
Also, if you do change the clutch, you don't need to take the basket off. Just take the plates out from behind the pressure plate which is like 5 screws.
If you don't do wheelies and burnouts, a clutch could last the life of a bike actually. And clutch plates ARE solid steel.

When your problem presents itself, when your rpm's rise, your speed stays the same? If so , it's your clutch slipping. I have had clutchs that would only slip at higher rpm's in higher gears. On that note, make sure you replace the 5 or 6 springs for the pressure plate as well.

Well it seems everyone's diagnosis were a bit off.  I know exactly what you're talking about now, and thinking back your description does fit the profile of frozen or unevenly stretched chain links.

Nah man I'm serious cuz it happened to me. Brought the bike up to WCW after it started lurching slightly in all gears just like this dude described. Ron put it up on a rear stand, spun the rear tire by hand and said the chain has stretched out unevenly you need a new one. He slapped a new one on and everything was smoooooth...sometimes ya just gotta learn the hard way.

i put a hard 7k-8k miles on my 03.....street, drag strip, trackdays, and racing. My clutch had ZERO sign of ANY wear what so ever at 7k. just a FYI....these clutches are good shit.

33K on my original clutch and no signs of slippage. Ive done my share of burnouts, wheelies, drag launches etc.. Never once adjusted my clutch cable or lubed it.
I also run Mobil 1 15-50 for those that are wondering.
