The Chatterbox
Do people actually use these things?
I ride with a few that do have them, but others that I ride with regularly think its a pain in the ass, stupid idea.
Whats the consensus people?

I used my chatterbox for a day and hated it. It made my very pricey helmet that was suppose to be quiet loud. Don't like it , and def don't need it.

I love mine but only use it for group rides, I think its worth the $$ but I also have my Ipod hooked to mine so when no one is chatting I have my tunes rocking. which works great music playing....stops when someone talks.....talking stops and the the music is back on.

i use mine, but only for group rides... as saxon pointed out, its great for pumping tunes into the helmet too...
it is a bit pricey however, but the alternatives are clunky...

Well I have an autocom, which is just wires all over the pace, but it eliminates the chunky thing hanging off your helmet.....it serves its purpose for group rides, but it is annoying to always have on...it too is MP3 compatible and will quiet when talking, but if someone has one on, you can hear it. The autocom is what they use on the track so it can handle talking at higher speeds, where the chatterbox cuts at 50mph b/c of wind.

my chatter box was still good at 90+ its all in the adjustments and the chatterbox doesn't transmit the MP3 over the air just in the user's helmet.
does the autocom work with the chatterbox?

As others have said those 2-way units are excellent for group rides, especially large ones!

I still have my X1. The group I rode with years ago all used them. Mine had a PTT since the superchicken's exhaust tripped the mic. It's really good for yelling out "COP"!!!!

I never use VOX on my chatterbox, its not reliable enough, and pressing a button isnt a big deal.
The autocomm works with the chatterbox x1/x2 models that use FRS frequencies....
If you dont like the chatterbox hanging off the side of your helmet, you could always mount it elsewhere and use a $5 keyboard extension cable (although you have to make sure all 6 pins are extended) to run to the helmet... No need for the overpriced chatterbox cable.
