Better to ride with it on the looser side than the tighter side. How loose is loose?

Measure 1/2 way down the swingarm, should have 1-1.5 inches of slack.

its definately too loose.

i just wasnt sure if it would damage anything else by riding with it like that. i put 180 miles on it this weekend and nothing happened but im gonna take it in to be looked at this week.

Take it in?

You don't know how to adjust the slack in your chain? It should show you how in your owners manual. It's simple maintenance.
