Yup, you're on probation for 1 year from the completion of the course. During the 1 year probation the year is broken out into 1/4's. The punishment varies depending on which 1/4 you get another ticket in...getting a ticket in the first 1/4 will be alot worse than getting one in fourth 1/4. This is what we were told when I had to go to driving school for to many points, lol.

You can take an Experienced rider course. This counts as a defensive driving course and it's one day. Rider-Ed is holding a few more for this year but, they claim they are full. Maybe you can get in as a stand-by.

If you take the defensive driving course, it is really a gamble, and this is why.
your license will drop 2 points. But within one year of taking that class, you CANNOT get a ticket. If you get a ticket within one year period after taking the class, you will get MORE points, possibly even losing your license. A laywer will NOT gaurantee you to walk away with no points, and the ones that do are bsing you. However, its around $500 for a TRAFFIC lawyer, sometimes more and sometimes less. If your court is in woodbridge, get a woodbridge laywer, since lawyers that go out of town will charge more because they have to travel farther, and you'll feel like a schmuck if he just lowered it 2 points which you could of done yourself.
Best bet:
Plead not guilty, try to get it to the 0pt ticket like ffjettable said. If not, go for the 39:4-97.2 which is also a 0pt ticket. Otherwise, just take the 2 points n the insurance hit and DON"T take the defensive driving course. For some ODD reason if the prosecutor won't lower the points at ALL, ask to be rescheduled so you can get a lawyer. You do'nt really have to get a lawyer, but thats a good reason for them to reschedule you. Let me remind you that the town just wants money, and their best bet is to give you the 39:4-97.2 which would run you about $433

thanks guys...some really good info. here! considering i've NEVER gotten a ticket (besides parking ones)...i may just opt to take the course if i still wind up with 2 pts.,...although i probably just jinxed myself and will get pulled over right after, jeez!!

I love when the judge over rules the prosecutors. Congrats.

Congrats....luckily you just have to pay w/ no pts. Might want to check w/ Peter (Marker01) about insur. pts. though...not sure if/what can be done about those and/or how it'll effect what you're paying for insurance.

i hoenstly do'nt know if the insurance goes up with a no point ticket. I jsut DON"T call, cause they'll log it in n probably look into it. I believe this only affects you if you decide to start a new policy with a new company. Again, i know enough but NOT EVERYTHING. So do'nt quote me on this. i'm glad everything worked out. But really cool that uh ad a nice judge. Prosecutor must of been pissed. N don't be suprised if the judge calls u afterwards asking if u wanna take a ride with him to stewarts or soemthing (considering he's a guy, or a female if she swings that way)....

Even though it's a zero point ticket, it's still a "moving" violation and your ins. co. probably will view it as that.
Anyway, congrats on getting the zero pt ticket.
BTW - if anybody gets a ticket in Old Bridge, the prosecutor will almost everytime, drop it to the next lower ticket. 4 to 2, 2 to 0 (min. fine) unless the cop notes that he already gave you a break. I got popped for a wheelie about 4yrs ago as I got onto rt 9, cop only gave me a careless but let the prosecutor know that he also got me for speeding but didn't ticket me.
