Default Group rides

I'm new so bear with me.

Is there any rules for group rides? I've been on a few sport bike rides and it's a squid fest with only a few guys in full gear. I don't mind if it's just a scenic ride but if it's a ride up to some twisties, why come in jeans?

And what's the deal with passing in the same lane? This alone has me not wanting to go on anymore group rides with other sportbike riders.

Any input would be appreciated.

Staggered position, slow riders stay in the back, ride your own pace, no same lane passing, single file around turns, no passing the leader, etc...that is usually how we do things in group rides.

Cool, thanks!

I heard about that ride but didn't want to go because of the previous sportbike rides.

I just hope the guys/gals on these rides stick to those rules.

It's a mixed bag. I have seen ppl go down in jeans and in some cases, they had minimal rash and just a few tears in their jeans. On the other hand, I have seen others go down at the same speed and their jeans have disintegrated into nothing along with most of the skin on their legs. It all depends on how you land and how far you go before you stop.

I wear jeans now, but am looking to get a pair of Joe Rocket Alter Ego Textile Pants in the near future.

Jeans last maybe .5 sec in a slide and have rivets that have been know to embed into skin. So how is that safer than shorts?

Now, I ride in jeans sometimes when I'm just putting around but for spirited rides in the twisties I'll wear full leathers. In the twisties, that could mean the difference between brushing off some dirt or taking a trip in an ambulance.

I'm fully aware of the consequences of wearing jeans and that's the risk I choose to take when putting around town.

Jeans can hold up amazingly well in a low speed slide. My brother went down on my Gixxer last year doing about 30mph and came up with a tiny bit of Rash on his hip. I am not saying that Jeans are a worthy substitute for leather, but they are definitely better than shorts. I can't remember the last time I passed a fellow rider on the street who was in full leathers. Usually it's just the kneedraggers on the group rides or the older guys with lots of xtra cash laying around in the full leathers. Just from my experience any way.

same here.. ppl who ride with full leathers have either some nice pocket change laying around or good credit!!lolol
a full setup minus boots are like a grand for pants and jacket plus boots and good gloves and then helmet!!
even kneedragger jeans are like 80 to 100..

I've got a pair of knee/shin guards I wear under my jeans. I got cut off on the highway, and was wearing capri jeans (the stretchy kind) they were torn, and I did have some fabric in my skin...it always depends on the crash.

Are you calling me old? :p

Yes, I will usually wear full leathers when I go out for a long ride or at least textiles if I'm going any distance. I'll wear jeans if I'm just putting around, which isn't too often.

I've heard the arguement about it being expensive but you can get leather pants for under $200 and textiles for ~$100. The way I see it, you spend $6000 or more for a bike and can't afford $200 for protection? Just doesn't make sense to me.
