Question Computer Issue

Yesterday I noticed that picture icons on my computer looked different. I can view any pic just fine, but if I right click, properties on an icon, the File Type is listed as PhotoshopAlbumSE3.JpegFile. Question is, how the hell did this happen, lol. Runnin Win XP Pro SP2. And no, I'm not getting a Mac, MAC or whatever you want to call it.

Right click on a picture file > Open With > Choose new app to open pic with > Choose Program -or- Choose from list of available.

If you click "Choose Program" you can elect to have the program become the default program.

As to how it got like that, even small modifications (or opening/running other applications) to a Windows-based OS can cause some file types to become disassociated with their original or chosen applications.

Vin you work with computers or something? Its a good answer, cakes antivirus doesn't always protect you unless you keep it up to date against new virus's. Also you should keep your computer up to date with new patch's from Microsoft. However sometimes after an update you notice your system acting weird. Then its time to check which updates you installed and remove the culprit that is affecting your system. Computers are more sensitive than a woman during her time of the month.

Everything is set to auto update, but I did check just to make sure and everything is up to date. Also ran a FSS just incase and all was good. Pretty sure it's not virus related, but more so what I was doing in photoshop due to what the file names changed to. Weird thing is the files still open normall with Windows Viewer

ps...not so sure bout that last coment, lol.

you can also add new file extension since there are .jpeg and .jpg 's alike and then re-associate that w/ photochop pretty much same idea as what Vin said with a twist

*************CAN ANBODY ANSWER THIS****************

sorry about the hi-jack Cakes.

So im thinking about buying another computer, and I dont know much about this crap. Go into Best Buy yesterday and talk to one of the sales dudes. Points me to a $500-$600 machine, but tells me that I have to buy and additonal $300 of software to go with it (Office, Anti-virus/spam.) Is this right???? Also, I'm not using the machine for anything more then crusing the intenet & downloading
MP3's. How much should I be spending on a new computer?

You don't need Office. You can download OpenOffice (for free) which does the same stuff. As far as AV -- yeah, you're going to want AV products but many major suppliers (Dell, Gateway, etc) provide you with AV for a cost -- usually around $90.

For $300 the salesperson oughta find you a good hooker.

I'd pay between $400 and $600 for a base-level computer (probably even less) that is going to be used for mail, web, and word processing.

Cakes -- What's your thoughts on having a Computer/Video gaming-specific forum? Plenty of computer pros around these parts.

And what if he's got extensions hidden? How would that help? You're basically renaming the file when you do that, and not accomplishing anything.
