Default The math of buying wood

So my parents decided they're going to buy me firewood for christmas, which is awesome because I burn a lot of it. I live in an apartment so I don't have much room to store it so I just run to Lowes and buy 3/4 CF bundles @ $4.50 a piece (They use to be $3.80 last year but that's another story). I usually buy 4 at a time which lasts me from about 6pm to 11:30pm give or take. So I'm trying to figure out how much wood I can store, I think 1/2 cord is really pushing it since it's against my lease to store things outside or on my balcony, so I'm going to have to go with 1/4 cord (and store it only balcony anyway). Now a full cord is 128 CF (generally 4x4x8 stack), 1/2 64 CF and 1/4 32 CF. Well the guy wants $80 for a 1/4 cord and mathematically that works out well. Lowes @ $189 (32 cf = 3/4cf * 42bundles) and this dude at $80 for the same size. Now my parents don't have the same rational, they keep saying "well how many pieces is that". In my world, I don't give a shit, numbers are numbers. But my mom kept saying "But how many pieces is that?" So I tried to explain that trees are different sizes, there is no unit of measurement called "piece of wood size" so you can't think like that, they just have to fill a certain volume. So she said "yeah, but how many pieces is that". So I hung up the phone. That was 3 hours ago, I wonder if shes outside measuring trees.

Some people don't understand different things I never knew what a chord was until I moved into a house with a wood burning stove now I know the dimensions of a chord 1/2 chord and 1/4 chord.

If someone doesn't understand how something works whats the point of getting angry? Just do it yourself.

There is a difference between not knowing what a cord is, not understanding how to measure something, and knowing when someone isn't listening. The problem I was having is my mom is asking a question that would be answered "d) there is not enough information to answer this question" if we were still in high school. Trees are all different sizes. It's like the same question as "which is heavier, a pound of feathers or a pound of gold". It doesn't matter how many pieces there are. If I would have answered "4 pieces of wood", that would make them 8 cubic feet each. Yeah, that's a big piece of wood. But to a person that doesn't understand that, "O, 4 isn't enough". Which is why I hung up, I would end up an apartment full of wood and a have to rent out to wood peckers.

Here is 1/4 cord of wood. Don't ask me how many pieces, I tried to count but forgot I was counting around 7 pieces. And btw, I'm fairly certain it's all fresh wood. I have to make a phone call to bitch tomorrow. It won't burn.

Stack

7pm

2 hours, 3 starter logs, the sports sections, and a whole lot of poking later....failure.

I now have another reason to call the people who sold this shit. First off, I spoke to him Friday and he assured me it was seasoned. Also, he said he would drop off a bunch of hand picked, dry pieces later that day to get me started while the other pieces "dried out" from the recent rain. Well I get home and nope, he didn't drop off shit. Friday night I had yet another failure but mild success on Saturday after buying an axe and 1/4ing the wood. Well cutting the wood reveled another lovely issue, larva. I kept about a dozen pieces in my apartment since delivery trying to dry them out. Who the fuck knows how many larva they contained, which are probably crawling around my apartment by now.

Does anyone know if
a) That will effect me burning it?
b) That greenage on the bark is any indication of how fresh / old the wood actually is?
