Its funny that we have said that line everyday yet we never hear our government referred to as a Republic and for a good reason. A democracy in essence is when the Individual, and any group of Individuals composing any Minority, have no protection against the unlimited power of The Majority. It is a case of Majority-over-Man.

A Republic which is what our government originated as, on the other hand its purpose is to strictly control the Majority Group, as well as all others among the people, primarily to protect The Individual’s God-given, unalienable rights and therefore for the protection of the rights of The Minority, of all minorities, and the liberties of people in general.

We lost that a long time ago unfortunately.

"Today, CNN posted an article online summarizing the Tax Policy center's report comparing John McCain and Barack Obama's proposed tax plans. It is available here. The numbers are remarkable, but CNN failes to notice the obvious punchline: more than 85% of Americans will pay less in taxes under Obama than McCain."

I assume most of us fall below the $227K-$603K range, which is where the tax cut starts for Obama. But if you don't, I'll personally pay your $12 increase.

Those figures do not include MCcain's proposed spending reforms nor do they include the savior's universal health care proposals both of which would greatly change the outcome of that article. Of course, CNN is reporting from the Far left so of why would they wait for those HUGE facts to weigh in before accurately reporting on the issue? That article does not say much of anything that is meaningful.

I don't think you read the title, "What they'll do to your tax bill", or the last paragraph. It also doesn't include the number of pets they own or their dental records either so it must be total liberal nonsense.

And btw, this wasn't supposed to come off pro Obama, just showing that the general assumption that republican = tax cuts / democrat = tax hikes (which some people here repeat over and over) isn't completely true. Their plans are fairly similar.

Get real guys if Obama ever tried to pass a universal health care law it would immediately be slapped away by congress. He's just doing this so he has the non insured vote.

Just the facts. These happen to be all McCain ones, but check the Past Episodes for Obama ones too.

10 things to know about McCain

For all the coverage this week of Senator John McCain's background, there are some important things you won't learn about him from the TV networks. His carefully crafted positive image relies on people not knowing this stuff—and you might be surprised by some of it.

Please check out the list below, and then forward it to your friends, family, and coworkers. We can't rely on the media to tell folks about the real John McCain—but if we all pass this along, we can reach as many people as CNN Headline News does on a good night.

10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):

1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.

2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."

3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.

4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."

5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.

6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.

7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.

9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."

10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.10
John McCain is not who the Washington press corps make him out to be.

McCain: Ignorant or Lying? by Ed Brayton
http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2...t_or_lying.php

Quote:
My father, a lifelong Republican, called and left a message on my voicemail yesterday saying that McCain's reaction to the Supreme Court's ruling on habeas corpus and the Gitmo detainees had sealed any chance McCain had for getting his vote in November. And McCain's statement was so ridiculous that one has to wonder if he is really that ignorant of the law or if he was simply lying through his teeth. Here's what he said:

We are now going to have the courts flooded with so-called, quote, Habeas Corpus suits against the government, whether it be about the diet, whether it be about the reading material. And we are going to be bollixed up in a way that is terribly unfortunate, because we need to go ahead and adjudicate these cases.

That may be the single dumbest thing said in this entire election so far. Habeas corpus suits have nothing to do with dietary restrictions on prisoners or what kind of reading materials they can have. McCain is conflating, either out of mendacity or ignorance, the kind of suits that can be brought by prison inmates and the kind of suits this ruling allows.

Habeas corpus suits only allow someone to challenge whether they are rightfully being detained. That's it. If McCain knows that, he's lying through his teeth. And if he doesn't know that, how absurd is it that he has an up or down vote on every single person nominated for the federal bench? If he doesn't know that, why should anyone vote for him for president? This is one of the most basic constitutional protections, one of the key components of a free society; if someone doesn't understand that basic concept, they should be kept as far away from power as possible.
Two notes on this. This is the type of politics I can't stand, distorting the truth (or at least application/intention) to play to peoples fear. Second, my grandfather said basically the same thing as this authors father to me this weekend out of the blue. I've never discussed politics with the man in my life and in the middle of dinner he brings this up and asks what I think. But before I could answer, he said he's voting for "that other guy" because anyone that thinks this way shouldn't be leading this country.

The best part is most of the shit he said was true. America did lie about pearl harbor it's in Rooselvelts Diary. Government did bring Herione into America by smuggling it in caskets of dead soldiers during Vietnam.

The government lies at last he acknowledges that.
