Which back protector?? - Sportbike Addicts

Im looking into getting a back protector and don't know where to start. Does anyone wear one on the street? Worst fear is being bound to a chair for the rest of my life and spiders scare me too.

Let me know your opinions on brand and stuff.

i have the six six one back protector....only used it a couple of times....i now wear a leather jacket that has pretty good padding. The only thing that bothers me is that the back protect rides up and when you're trying to tuck down it hits the back of your helmet. Otherwise, its pretty good...i Think i bought it for aroudn $70

I got an AlpineStars back protector from the TPM parts club and I am happy with it. With the AStars protector, you have to get the size correct, if its too long, it'll be riding too high and take some skin off the back of your neck.

I personally use the Bohn Pro Racer...full length back protector with a tail bone protector.

Another thing to think about when shopping for back protectors, is not only the padding, but the ability to stop your back from hyper extending(bending backwards.)

So its designed for keeping your back straight, almost like a splint...not really for rash purposes?

Rash purposes is one, impact and hyper extension more so. Doesn't keep you strait like a splint, you still have full forward mobility.

for the Bohn back protectors. I endoed over my bike at 135mph and the bike hit me in the back as it flipped over. Just some bruised ribs. I'll prob. never wear anything else.

Almost all back protectors work in this fashion...was just pointing out one of the main factors of having one.

that's what the leather is for, duh!
the back protector is for impact and hyperextion protection, like cakie said.
