Default Tire Break-in

I'm picking up my new 1000RR Wed. If I remember correctly its 100 miles to break in new tires. But what is the best/safest method?

Just ride around for around 100 miles. No hard turn in's, easy on the gas coming out of turns. Lean the bike gradually.

The tires are more capable then you think out of the box...

Don't try and shortcut it by doing burnouts either, I've heard of people taking that route.

Holy shit, burnouts to break in a tire?

Check the tire pressure as well, the dealer might have it jacked up too high.

When I get new tires I just ride around back roads weaving back and forth in my lane to slowly wear the strips down. Then I just gently start my turns, leaning in a little more each time with a little more gusto every few more miles. But definitely go easy on your exits with your throttle until you're sure you've worn in the whole tire. I was riding to almost my full potential on my Pilot Powers at around 50 miles without a problem. Then again, my full potential is probably nowhere near the tires' so whatever that means.

It's no so much the scrubbing of the tread surface as it is the heat making the mold-release compound precipitate out of the tread surface. You make that happen by riding the tire and getting it hot. Ever wonder how racers take brand new tires and go fast right off on them? Tire warmers. Those that don't use warmers do the same thing in a few laps. You can actually feel the difference in the tire as it breaks in, then it's 100%.

Ah ok that makes sense. I always wondered why on the road people make such a big deal about new tires but on the track you just go...like maybe 1 lap.

I couldnt say for sure. I'm no expert on the matter, but I would assume track/race tires are softer than street tires and therefore after that one lap and they hit the right temp they stick a hell of a lot better than street tires do. But again, I may just be way off base
