Default Has anyone shipped a bike?

There's a strong possibility I'm going to be heading west. Leaving my lovely hometown of Hillsborough, NJ to reestablish myself in the Seattle area. Life without bikes? Slim chance. Anyone know off the top of their heads what it would cost to ship a bike out here? Chances are, I'm going to be driving my car from NJ so long hauling the bike isn't really an option. Also - is it safe to ship a bike, or they beat the crap out of them in the process? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks!

Try "FowardAir"

i had a good experience w/ forwardair aswell. if you're going to put a solid crate around the bike (read: not see thru) you can call the shipment "bike parts" and save a few $$$. Atleast 5 years ago you could.

I shipped a bike to a nigerian prince. It worked out really well, he sent me a check for more then my asking price and I was able to keep the balance because his sick mother was sick with cancer.
