It's not abuse, it's called self defense, how about saying the owners should be able to comprehend animal control instead of always pointing the finger at the innocent victims. Preferably, that wouldnt happen anyway. Remind owners of their responsibilities whenever applicable. It isn't your fault if you have to defend yourself... its theirs for not being responsible for their pet.

That's why you strike hard and swift the first time either to the nose and/or throat, after that they have the advantage. I've had too many situations to list where I was in a sticky spot and had to defend myself in one way or another either at a customer's home or in the park, it's rediculous.

And one would think that the owner's would realize since you are there and the dog could attack they would lock it up or keep it leashed, but no, they always seem to have three braincells rolling around in that big empty dome, and two are burnt out.

haha funny story.my boy who breeds and trains pits.. was walking his two personal pits in th epark..some jackass had his rotti of the leash.. he asked him nicly to put it back on the leash the guy didnt do it th erotti attacked the pits. the pits ate the rotti.. the end..

One pit, even a pup would have taken the rotti no doubt.

But on the other hand, Ron, if you saw my dog come leaping towards you tail wagging and trying to lick and jump on you would you decide to give it a swift kick to the face. The difference in self defense and animal cruelty is very small

Logic my friend, for every action there's a reaction, hence if that was the case then I wouldn't react in the way you've stated. I've been around dogs since I was born, it's easy for me to read their body language.

As high rev said....certain things you should try and look for when a dog approaches you, which will tell you its temperment......
first of all (what everyone knows) wagging tail= happiness,
firm upwards pointing tail is a sign of distress and aggression,
tail between legs=scared, upset(basically not happy which can lead to attacking if provoked),
fur on back standing up=aggression
lowering of head with ears lowered as they approach=submissive
ears back head up=aggression
growling/ bearing teeth=obviously aggression

Some others which i cant remember right now, so basically when any dog approaches you its actually pretty easy to know what they are gonna be like just by looking at them....

so your saying you kicked many dogs in the face with your size 8's....i've walked throught the park many times and the only action they gave me and my dog was a tounge to my hand and a sniff in my dogs rear...You must have a certain scent for numerous dogs to attack you or your dog...

She does... her doggie isn't other-doggie friendly, except for my gf's sisters little min-pin. Oddly enough, though, Bailey is very loving with the cats at her parents house. Very wierd dog
