just make sure you're aware of 'counter-steering'. Actually pushing the left handlebar away from you to turn left and vice versa. Sounds counter intuitive and not what what you actually do at lower speeds but at speeds higher than those reached in parking lot shenanigans, you'll have to do it.

If you dont have time to correctly learn how to ride your bike, then you shouldnt have a bike to being with.
Good way to hurt yourself, or someone else, or your bike!
Things get real nasty real quick on any bike!

Not trying to bash him, but christ.
I guess you really dont understand the complexity of riding a motorcycle until you crash, then you realize oh shit one mistake and i'm in PAIN.
Age,
have any friends with dirt bikes? That will get you the fundamentals down (regarding shifting and clutching).
You should really be in a wide open parking lot somewhere away from cars and houses, so that if your bike gets away from you.. its just the bike or yourself getting damaged, and not other peoples property.

The fundamentals on dirt are the same as street. The fine points of front vs. rear brakes are huge though. Just remember, don't get too crazy with details, some of what you end up practicing alone will be wrong and have to be corrected. Riding in an open empty lot is good too.
Yes, you will countersteer in the MSF courses. In fact, you probably already did, you just don't know it.

00000000 on getting a dirtbike. I logged thousands of miles in the woods, on trails and on the MX track before I ever got on a street bike. And I was a pretty darn good rider right from the start because of all of the dirt experience. Learning the front/rear brake bias takes a little adjustment but I can still hop on a MX bike and slide the rear, then hop back on my R1 and not touch the rear brake.
Either way, def worth considering a cheap dirtbike off craigslist or whatever.
