loud pipes

I'm new to all of this and have no clue really about any of this. That's why I joined here, I figured maybe I could meet some people to ride with and pick peoples brains over the pros and cons of the ideas I have. All I have to rely on is what I hear on the street and what I read here. I do appreciate all the feed back. I have a 2000 r6 what do you guys think is the best pipe for my bike without spending thousands of dollars? Is that a better way to put this?

I have to agree. the D&D pipes are pretty tinny sounding. While they may give a performance advantage over stock there are other pipes the do as well or better and have a better sound.

D&D does NOT give more performance at all. If anything, the lower backpressure takes away your low to mid range power. They're just loud, annoying pipes.

Most pipes won't give you that much power alone. Even with a PCIII and a proper map, you might get about 3-5hp.

Most R6 guys seem to like Micron or Yosh. I like my Yosh but the Termi is nice too. Check out www.solomotoparts.com. They have pretty good selection and the online guy is a R6 rider.

D&D is just straight junk...i hate riding with guys who have that pipe. Nothing against the rider of course but it's annoying...

just an FYI....loud doesn't matter..99% of the time cagers won't be able to hear much of you until your either next to them or zoom past them. So why people are so hung up loud pipes for safety is beyond me...not that it WON'T help...but to bank on that as a safety feature is not good...

Anyway..the yosh has a deep VROOM...the micron is same but also loud...do yourself a favor and don't get the D&D, chances are you'll switch out of it not long after....

What is this whole "map" thing and is it better to replace just the can or the whole system?

changing your map involves fuel delivery. When you remap u usually use a chip or PCIII (e.g.). giving your machine better performance..of course this is after you change out the breathing method of your machine..ie intake, exhaust...etc..

its always better to change out your exhaust system..but don't expect to see crazy gains..5-10 horses if it's done right...

Yoshimura screams at high revs. Had one on my GSXR600K1 and I loved it.

Now, I love the quietness of the stock exhaust on my '06 RR. If I upgrade to anything, it'll be an Arata or a Micron.

Go with a slip-on (Can). Sounds like you won't be racing that bike in SuperSport anytime soon so a full system would be a waste of money.

Kind of hard to map a carbureted bike though.

I just checked out the micron systems and they are close to 900 for the whole thing. I can pick up the can for 4 and change. If I change just the can do I have to do anything else? I need a new mid pipe too, bike was downed by one of previous owners and I'm trying to fix it little by little, so look out for more questions like this from me. Thanks for all the input guys!

I think on Carbureted bikes, if you throw on a slip-on, generally, you have to get the bike re-jetted?

You might not have to re-jet the carbs. (forgot that the '99-'02 R6 were carb'd). See how it runs first. Maybe shim the main jet or rejet as needed.
