This is interesting, sorry thread revival I know.
But, the coaches at TPM teach you that you should be tucked in and be looking into your imaginary mirror straight on.
This necessitates your body being close to the bike like the bottom left.
Albeit, the lower left picture makes it look like the rider is crossed up but I'm now a bit confused.

Why are you confused? The key here is not to weight the bars and keep the bike upright by "hanging off". Looking into your imaginary mirror is a great method to teach you to get off the tank and you will eventually just get your own style and do what your comfortable doing. it will all make sense once you start going faster and need the traction from the tires as you corner.

Good point Kaz, I actually just learned that Larry Pegram had hip surgery early in his career from a crash and he had to change his riding style since he was not able to move the same way. Which is probably why his style is a little unorthodox today.

Its not a good point IMO actually. At that level, they're also tweaking the bikes to work with the rider, investing millions.

We have over 40 coaches at TPM and your body position is a very subjective topic. So what one coach suggest's to you may not work for you and may work well for another rider...

For Larry's bike? ..... nahhhh
There's barely a thing on that bike you couldn't go out and buy. In fact everything is homologated due to the new AMA SBK rules. He was selling one on ebay for $100K last year. Suzuki was selling Mladin's K8 2009 SBK for $60K a couple years ago.
