Default Pedrosa delivers another faultless performance to win at Brno

Defending champion Dani Pedrosa took another step towards a second consecutive title in the quarter litre class by winning the Gauloises Ceske Republiky Grand Prix at Brno ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner.

Pedrosa moved ahead of pole-sitter Lorenzo at the first corner, but both Spaniards were temporarily shadowed by Japanese rider Hiroshi Aoayama. Behind them various incidents saw Hector Barbera and Yuki Takahashi colliding and crashing out, and also Simone Corsi high-siding and forcing Sebastian Porto to run wide on to the grass.

On lap three, Jorge Lorenzo moved back to the front of the leading pack, which included Aoyama, De Angelis, Stoner, Pedrosa and Dovizioso. Those six riders were covered by less than 1.5 seconds by mid-race, but it was then that Pedrosa started to increase his pace. The World Champion quickly moved up from 5th to 2nd and then started to increase the pressure on Lorenzo.

However, the race leader was able to pull out a half a second advantage on lap 15 as de Angelis battled with Pedrosa for second. The Movistar Honda rider eventually managed to see off the San Marino rider and launched a strong charge for Lorenzo. Once he passed Lorenzo, Pedrosa pushed hard and posted a new lap record on his way to his sixth victory of the season.

Lorenzo crossed the line 1.3 seconds adrift of his Spanish compatriot, while Stoner relegated de Angelis from third to fourth in the closing stages of the race. Aoyama took fifth less than a tenth of second ahead of 125 World Champion Andrea Dovizioso.

Porto was a distant seventh, finishing over 25 seconds behind the winner, but ahead of team-mate Randy de Puniet. Roberto Locatelli and Sylvain Guintoli completed the top 10.
