Def. start it up and let it idle without riding it. See if the fan comes on. Should happen around 220 degrees. Also somewhere between 180 and 195 degrees, you should see the temp guage or readout (if you have one) go down, then go back up. You can also test for this by touching the radiator. It will be cold to touch until the thermostat opens. Then it gets hot. If all that happens, I'm just not sure what's wrong. lol
