Thoughts on Google Android?
With T-Mobile's (HTC) Dream being put up for pre-order today, I'm excited to see what Android can really do. So far I'm relatively impressed with what I've seen, but will only be really impressed when the phone will be available for real in about a month.
Any thoughts on the impact of the open source mobile OS industry especially with Windows Mobile 7 release being pushed to mid 2009?

I don't qualify for the discount until Oct 20~. 180 vs 300. I think I'll wait! Besides, even if I pre-ordered today, I wouldn't get it until around that time anyway.
T-Mo's site was down earlier due to heavy traffic.

An android phone is reported to be soon released for Sprint by year's end. I'm hoping it'll be a little more shiny looking!

I think once Android has a VGA screen to play with, it'll become awesome (well more so) I'm not so worried about the phone because HTC has been at it for a while and I trust them to do a good job.
I just don't know what to think about Android's day to day functionality. It might look cool but is it functional to live with!

2 things I read about it:
Most importantly, the G1 complements its touch screen with a physical keyboard, the lack of which has made the iPhone a non-starter for some users. The G1’s keyboard is revealed when you slide open its screen. The keys are a bit flat, and you have to reach your right thumb around a bulging portion of the phone’s body to type, but it’s a real keyboard. And there’s also a BlackBerry-like trackball that supplements the touch screen navigation. I found typing on this keyboard to be OK, but not great.
A second big feature, or limitation, of the G1 — depending on your point of view — is that it is tightly tied to Google’s web-based email, contacts and calendar programs. In fact, you must have a Google (GOOG) account to use the phone, and can only synchronize the phone’s calendar and address book with Google online services. Unlike the iPhone, it doesn’t work with Microsoft Exchange, and it can’t physically be synced with a PC-based calendar or contacts program, like Microsoft Outlook.

I can't wait to see the Android phone that Spring is due to get. I hear it's supposed to have more features, but that's about all they have to say.
I still don't have enough money to get a bike, so I'll splurge on a new phone if it's worthy! ^^
