As has been rumored for several weeks, it seems that there has been an impasse with Mid-Ohio and the "final round" for this season is now Laguna Seca ...

And as noted in the rain at Mid-Ohio last year, it was 72 degrees at Brainerd on race day.

This just in from the AMA:

2007 AMA SUPERBIKE SEASON TO CONCLUDE AT MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (March 1, 2007) - Officials from AMA Racing and TrueSports, Inc., owner and operator of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course have mutually agreed to remove the Superbike Shootout from the 2007 AMA Superbike Championship schedule, thus designating the Sept. 15-16 round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca as the championship finale.

In reaching this decision, AMA Road Race Director Keith Kizer said the concern of seasonal weather, as experienced in 2006, dictated the decision. "We want to remove the weather factor for our finale as much as possible. Typically, the late summer, early fall weather at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is ideal. We're confident that date and location will provide an optimum setting for the final round of the championship," said Kizer.

"We sat down with Michelle [Trueman Gajoch, President, TrueSports, Inc.] and objectively discussed our options," Kizer added. "After considering a number of ideas, including trying to find an alternative date, together we decided that it would be in everyone's best interest to eliminate the second round at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course."

"It was our intent to create something truly exceptional with the Shootout, and we still believe in this concept," said Michelle Trueman Gajoch, president of TrueSports, Inc. "However, it was important for us to evaluate this event as a whole and in keeping with our vision and the integrity of the series and AMA Racing; the unpredictable weather is a significant unknown to consider an event at this time."

The 2007 AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited will now feature 11 rounds beginning with next week's series kick-off at Daytona International Speedway. The revised schedule is as follows:

2007 AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited
Mar 7-10: Daytona Beach, FL: Daytona International Speedway
Apr 20-22: Birmingham, AL: Barber Motorsports Park
Apr 27-29: Fontana, CA: California Speedway
May 18-20: Sonoma, CA: Infineon Raceway
Jun 1-3: Elkhart Lake, WI: Road America
Jun 22-24: Tooele, UT: Miller Motorsports Park
Jul 20-22: Monterey, CA: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Aug 3-5: Lexington, OH: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
Aug 17-19: Alton, VA: Virginia International Raceway
Aug 31-Sep 2: Braselton, GA: Road Atlanta
Sep 15-16: Monterey, CA: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
