I've read this Ienatsch article before but it's worth reposting from time to time. Riding in a controlled manner on the street is very important. As modern machines have outpaced the skill level of riders almost any moron can get a 600 or 1000 machine that would have spanked factory race prepped machines 10 years ago.
I've seen riders going well beyond their ability on the street. While you may be lucky 9 out of 10 times that last one may be a killer. Ride sensibly with appropriate equipment, and skill and you'll improve your odds of surviving the mean streets.
