thanks for the good advise. while i had it apart on the roadside. i unplugged and plugged fuses, the plug into the starter relay, and the battery(positive and negative).
it just really had me puzzled. then the rest of the day the starter worked and it ran ok. so maybe i tightened what was loose? i'll go over everything again.
