If he measures with the wheel towards the front and screws up by cutting off too many links, he is SOL unless he wants to put on two links... He he measures from the back the worst that could happen is he doesnt take enough links off..

I would stick with having the wheel 1/2 to all the way back... And yes, if he is going to stock gearing, or close to is -1/, stock length should work.
