well, it looks like they're not going to do surgery on my heel after all. I had an appointment today with an orthopedic surgeon that is a foot and ankle specialist. He looked over all the films from my x-rays and cat scans and did some more x-rays himself...he was very upset that tri-care took so long to get me refered to him, he said if he could have seen me within a week of the accident perhaps he could've surgically improved the injury...but the bone is already knitting so it's not looking good as far as surgery. However, the bone is knitting in a good position, so it will just be a long slow recovery rather than a short surgically tainted one. He also spotted damage to the achilles tendons in both my left and right ankle...also never noticed by any of the air force or emergency room doctors...he said it will take more than a couple of months for the achilles tendons to reconstruct themselves and I will more than likely always have problems with them. He's consulting with my orthopedic doctor on base and wants to see me again in a week so he can check some other things out and possibly give me some advice on how to improve my recovery time. Before I left, he asked if I was fond of my career in the military...because it's not gaurenteed, but it's likely I'll be facing a med board before my enlistment expires...
